Glassic Answers: Who Invented The Eyeglasses?

The first eyeglasses were created in Northern Italy, in Pisa in about 1290. Evidence suggests that during a sermon delivered on 23 February 1306, the Dominican friar Giordano da Pisa (1255–1311) expressed, “It's not yet twenty years since there was found the art of making eyeglasses, which make for good vision.”

No evidence exists to prove who the original inventor of glasses was, though many claim Benjamin Franklin to be the creator of glasses. Among others, Benjamin Franklin invented the bifocals.
